Ludovico Einaudi‘s compositions have a way of tugging at a listener’s heartstrings. This piece, Nuvole Bianche, was featured in the film Insidious (2010).
What I enjoy about this piece are the arpeggio patterns and the constant tempo change throughout the song. Nuvole Bianche begins slowly with simple chords, which are broken down and eventually transitioned into arpeggios that bring out a sense of power. Coupled with the increasing tempo, the song feels momentous. Yet, it finds its way back to the simple chords, returning us to a moment of solitude. This song goes through dramatic mood changes that makes it hauntingly beautiful.
Captivated by the song’s beauty, I was compelled to practice it over and over again. Practicing a new piece is always difficult since I do not have a piano where I live. So, I resort to practicing and playing for hours on end when I visit my parents in my hometown.
While many improvements have to be made (you’ll notice I’m a little off-beat), I’m excited to perfect this beauty with each practice. Let me know what you think!
